French renaissance nature explorer-ceramist Palissy is known for his contributions to the natural sciences, and is famous for discovering principles of geology, hydrology and fossil formation. Aquatic, amphibious and reptilian-themed works.
Ik ontdekte een fascinerende parallel tussen het gedachtengoed van Palissy en mijn zoektocht om de wereld te leren begrijpen. Een werk van de 16e eeuwse natuurvorser en keramist Bernard Palissy (voor zover ik weet niet in een Nederlandse collectie); inspiratie voor het langlopende internationale onderzoek The Making & Knowing Project. Inspiratie: Haags Rozenburg eierschaal porselein (1899-1914)
Opmerkelijk is, dat 100 jaar geleden, in de tijd dat kunstenaars op zoek gaan naar ‘nieuwe kunst voor een nieuwe en betere samenleving’ met natuur als inspiratiebron en herwaardering voor het ambacht (Art Nouveau) in de Haagse Boekhorststraat (later Buitenom) de N.V. ‘s-Gravenhaagsche Kunstaardewerkfabriek, Plateelbakkerij Rozenburg (1883-1916) start met de productie eierschaalporselein (1899 -1914), Dit porselein werd beschilderd met motieven ontleend aan planten, bloemen of dieren en voor het eerst gepresenteerd tijdens de Wereldtentoonstelling in Parijs in 1900.
